About Heinz

A Joe Meek-produced singer best known for his hit single “Just Like Eddie.”

Though Joe Meek’s reputation for producing musicians may often be overstated, it is certainly true in the case of Heinz (real name Heinz Burt), with whom Meek was reportedly infatuated. Beginning his career with Meek as the bassist for the successful Tornados (known for recording Meek’s biggest hit, “Telstar”, Heinz’s solo career was the invention of Joe Meek, who saw potential in the young musician.

Heinz’s career was uneven to say the least, beginning with a big flop (“Dreams Do Come True,” recorded with a different vocalist due to Heinz’s weak singing voice), but soon being jolted by a tribute number: “Just Like Eddie.” This high did not last, and after several attempts to replicate his success, Heinz went the way of all other Meek projects following his producer’s death in the late sixties.
