Haysen Cheng (born February 22, 2000) is a rapper and songwriter currently signed to IRIS CHENGDU, in partnership with Universal Music China. Originally from Hong Kong, Cheng began releasing music in 2019 as an independent artist and started to gain regional buzz and a small following after 2 singles “Machetes” and “Weight Lift” from his debut mixtape were shared by Hip-Hop blogs around Asia and also picked up by the “New Era: Asian Hip-Hop editorial playlist”, as well as earning co-signs from bigger artists in Hong Kong.
Things started to pick up speed in 2021 for Haysen Cheng after he developed a new style and began releasing short songs with music videos named “North Point Demos”, which were widely shared online and is his first solo EP to break 100k streams while also landing on international Spotify playlists such as “Beats & Rhymes” and “Chinese Hip-Hop stars”. At the same time, he partnered with Warner Music China’s JUUICE DROPS label and released 2 singles “ICED OUT HEART” and “TO THE BAG”, which landed him on editorial playlists around multiple streaming platforms.
Being from Hong Kong and having a background in Shanghai as well as Spain where he played basketball for 3 years, Haysen Cheng draws inspiration from personal life experiences and delivers grimy and hard hitting flows in English and Mandarin with “one of the illest rap voices in the Asian scene”. After turning down various opportunities to pursue college in favour of a path in music, Haysen Cheng is on a mission to solidify his name in Chinese Hip-Hop history.
