Like fellow Norwegian Edvard Grieg, Harald Sæverud (1897-1992) was from Bergen and lived there for most of his life, being heavily influenced by folk music. During World War II, he wrote pieces of music that protested the Nazi invasion and takeover of his homeland. After the war, he was showered with honors as his country’s foremost symphonist.
