About Hanna (ZW)

Zimbabwean-Ethiopian wordsmith Hanna Kuruneri is boundary-pushing, gender-non-confirming usher of the new wave in South Africa’s rap scene. Stumbling into the limelight during her time at the University of Cape Town, Hanna immediately rose to the occasion – striking up the interests of Nasty C and DJ Clock after posting a video of herself rapping on Instagram. Since then, the social media-savvy student became a firm favourite continent-wide, championing an abundant knowledge of her place in this world with a sense of limitless self assurance. The Lift as You Rise campaign saw the opportunity to record a song with features by Nasty C and Tellaman come to fruition; she also released a music video for her song “Peace” as part of Mr Eazi’s emPawa Africa initiative that year. 2020 sees her next offering The Girl in the Durag unleash her full potential on a scene waiting to be brought to its feet.
