Halo Circus was a band founded by American Idol finalist Allison Iraheta in 2013. The band was initially a four-piece alternative rock band, with Iraheta on vocals, Matthew Hager on bass and keyboards, Valerie Franco on drums, and David Immerman on guitar. Their first studio album, Bunny, was released in 2016.
In 2018, the band was re-established as an electronic duo consisting of solely Iraheta and Hager, after complications that arose that left them without their guitarist and drummer. The group’s second and final album, Robots and Wranglers, strayed away from the alternative rock sound of their debut, having more of an electronic and synthpop influence. The duo toured regularly during their time as a band, mostly playing small clubs.
On September 25, 2019, Iraheta announced on Facebook that Halo Circus would be disbanding due to her parting ways with Hager both professionally and personally. This was followed by a post from Hager confirming that the two had separated after being married for the entirety of the band’s run.
Commenting on the band’s name, Iraheta said the following in a 2016 interview:
We wanted a name that represented the lightness and darkness of the world we live in. The beauty and chaos that we all juggle. Halo Circus was perfect for us. “Halo” representing the sacredness of our lives and “circus” the chaos of the world we all live in.
