About H.A.W.K.

Big Hawk (aka H.A.W.K.), born John Edwards Hawkins, was a rapper from Houston, TX. He, along with DJ Screw, his younger brother Fat Pat, and several others, were founding members of the S.U.C..

After appearing on numerous mixtapes with DJ Screw and other S.U.C. members, Big Hawk released his debut album Under H.A.W.K.’s Wings in January of 2000. This album contained some of Hawk’s best known hits, such as “Heart of a Hustler” and “Roll Up a Blunt”.

In May of 2006, Big Hawk was shot and killed while arriving at a friend’s house. As of 2018, neither a killer nor a motive for the shooting has been found. His death was the first in a string of three major deaths in Houston hip-hop: Big Moe died of a heart attack in October of 2007 and Pimp C died from a combination of sleep apnea and “promethazine/codeine side effects” in December of 2007.
