Born in Brasilia, in 1993, Gustavo has written songs since the age of 9. As the lead composer, singer and guitarist in his band Scalene for almost 10 years, they’ve already put their mark on Brazil’s recent rock history. By releasing 3 albums “Real/Surreal” (2013), “Éter” (2015, Latin Grammy Winner for Best Rock Album In Portuguese) and “magnetite” (2017), as well as touring Brazil and playing importante festivals (Rock In Rio, Lollapalooza, SXSW (EUA),…) they’ve solidified a loyal fanbase and critical acclaim.
As a follow up to the unpretentious release of his first solo album “The Pilgrim” (2015), Gustavo now starts to focus on his solo career as well, teaming up with slap, Som Livre’s alternative music label. The new album “Where Light Pours In” drops on the 17th, with Samyr Aissami on the drums/percussion and production, as Gustavo takes care of all other instruments and the writing. He wanted a creative mind space where he could approach his songwriting in the most sincere and vulnerable way possible. Self-analysis and criticism permeate the record in simple yet sophisticated writing, as he lets us in in ways he hadn’t done before and he hopes that his process “brings some kind of light to the listeners”. He presents his pondering in a way that his first musical influences (bands his parents listened to like Fleetwood Mac, Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles) blend naturally with contemporary composers such as Sufjan Stevens, Dallas Green, Feist and Dustin Kensrue. In 2018 his second album “Where Light Pours In”
