Julius “Groucho” Marx (1890-1977) was the third of five brothers, though he often took lead as the Marx Brothers starred in comedy films during a highly successful run in the 1930s. Trained in vaudeville, he developed his signature look (glasses, cigar, greasepaint mustache and eyebrows) there. After the brothers' film career flamed out, he found a new niche as the host of the game show You Bet Your Life. His extreme verbal dexterity continues to inspire comics today.
