About Grant Hart

Grant Vernon Hart (born Grantzberg Vernon Hart on March 18, 1961) was the drummer, co-songwriter and sometime vocalist for the influential alternative rock band Hüsker Dü. He also designed Hüsker Dü’s album art.

While Bob Mould was the primary songwriter, Hart, throughout the band’s run, wrote and sang a significant number of iconic songs including the band’s first single “Statues”, “Diane”, a song that got a lot of early college radio play for its dark turn, and “Don’t Want to Know If You Are Lonely” one of their biggest hits and the breakout of their major label debut. An unhealthy competitive relationship between Hart and Mould eventually led to the breakup of the band late in 1987.

After the breakup, Hart formed a new alternative rock trio Nova Mob where he was the guitarist and vocalist.

When Nova Mob dissolved in 1997, Grant focused on a solo career (see his website). He died on September 13, 2017 from cancer. He is survived by his wife and son.
