Little is known about the early life of Giulio Caccini (1551-1618), although he is assumed to have been born in Rome, which is why he’s sometimes called Giulio Romano (though this threatens to confuse him with the painter by the same name). He was renowned as a singer at the Medici court and is known for his vocal music.
