About Geno Lenardo

After studying music composition, production and engineering at The Chicago Academy for the Arts and Berklee College of Music in Boston, Geno Lenardo took a job at Chicago Trax Recording, where he worked with Wax Trax Records artists like Sister Machine Gun, KMFDM, Ministry and Chemlab. Lenardo got so involved with Chemlab’s music he was asked to join, and toured with them for three years.

Upon returning to Chicago, Lenardo was approached by ex-Nine Inch Nails member Brian Liesegang to form Filter with another ex-NIN member Richard Patrick. Between Filter’s first two albums, the band built Abyssinian Sons Studios. In Lenardo’s time with the band, Filter scored two platinum albums and five top 20 Rock Chart hits (with one reaching #12 on the US Pop Chart).

After Filter’s third album, Patrick entered rehab, so Lenardo moved on – briefly playing bass for Chevelle before forming South Of Earth in 2006 with former members of Boy Hits Car and Kill Hannah. During this time, he also began scoring documentaries and films.

While collaborating with several artists to score the 2012 film Underworld: Awakening, Lenardo formed the industrial rock band Device with Disturbed frontman David Draiman while that band was on hiatus. Device’s 2013 self-titled album peaked at #11 and spawned the #1 Rock single “Vilify”.

Most recently, Lenardo has continued scoring and contributing compositions to films and other media like I, Frankenstein (2014), Wednesday (2015), Peppermint (2018) and American Zombieland (2020).
