Gem Club is an American dream-pop band formed by singer-songwriter Christopher Barnes and cellist Kristen Drymala at the end of 2009.
Barnes, a solo artist at the time, met Drymala at a show and asked her if she’d be interested in performing with him at an ’80s-themed house party. After mastering slowed-down versions of Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” and Duran Duran’s “The Chauffeur,” Gem Club was born.
They self-produced and self-released their first EP Acid and Everything in June, 2010.
The band then signed to Hardly Art, a Sub Pop sub-label, and began working with vocalist Ieva Berberian. The group’s debut full length album Breakers was released on September 27, 2011, and was met with critical success.
Their sophomore album In Roses was released on January 28, 2014.
Gem Club’s songs have been featured in various TV-shows such as Parenthood, Arrow, Private Practice and Revenge.
