Gaddiel O'Neil Ledinek, or more commonly known as GD, was apart the second generation of upcoming rappers coming straight outta the Jane and Finch area in Toronto, Ontario. GD is from the northside of Jane and Finch; this is important to note because of all the different neighbourhoods that surround this major intersection. GD began rapping early 2015, alongside well known Toronto rappers, such as Robin Banks, Pressa and FB. His debut song was titled Abaay Abaay featuring Robin Banks. The music video quickly gained thousands of views in a very short time due to Robin Banks popularity prior to this collab.GD rapidly grew a following after fans of Robin Banks took interest with GD’s unique, intense and rapid flow with clever word play. Later that year on November 14, 2015 a track titled Wass Gang featuring Robin Banks, Pressa, FB and GD was released which began a hit and put a true spotlight on the entire Driftwood neighbourhood. This track is historical because of the meaning. The track was titled Wass Gang after their close friend Kwasi Skene-Peters, a.k.a Wassi, was shot and killed in a shootout with Toronto police. The police caught up with Wassi in downtown Toronto after he was wanted for a double homicide. Despite the backstory and tragic loss the entire Driftwood community had to endure, this single Wass Gang gave these rappers a way out the hood which didn’t include drugs, sex or guns which was unheard of in 2015. A couple days before the beginning of 2016, Robin Banks and GD released another Toronto anthem for the streets titled TT In The Six.
It’s not clear what happened to GD after 2015, but it just seemed like he disappeared. His hiatus wasn’t uncalled for because we all know he was in the field, so he was most likely doing time. It’s alleged that he was released late 2019 on bail and was awaiting trial but I cannot confirm that. Anyways, we are now half way into 2020 and with the project Northside Jane 2 release we see that GD may have been in the studio recording tracks again. GD also made headlines in June 2020 after a shooting occurred at Houdini’s vigil. It’s reported that a large group of people were attending Houdini’s vigil, GD being one of them, and this vigil was located right by the highway. It says that a car pulled over to the side of the highway, with clear view of the vigil, and the people in the car got out and began shooting directly into the crowd. Gaddiel O'Neil Ledinek (GD) and Traequan Mahoney (Burna Bandz) were later arrested at the hospital for shooting back at the shooters on the highway. GD and Burna Bandz were identified through the security cameras which caught the entire shootout.
