About Gary McFarland

Gary McFarland was an American Jazz vibraphonist, vocalist, arranger, composer, and musical director whose stylized arrangements and writing talents brought him albeit brief but major success in the mid 60’s. Though he found himself often working in the realm of easy listening music, McFarland continued to arrange and write a number of expansive boundary pushing jazz-music to straight-ahead jazz albums. He had even begun to speculate over whether he should move his talent to composing for stage and screen. However, suddenly when drinking with friends at a bar he ingested a lethal dose of liquid nitrogen and died tragically at the young age of 38 shortly there after. To this day after 30+ years it’s still unknown whether he took the drug intentionally or not. Though overlooked by most during his unfortunately short career McFarland’s music is now gaining a larger and much deserved audience.
