Raised in Southwest Detroit with strong ties to his cultural roots from both Chile and Puerto Rico, Gabriel Duran came to love music from the influences of those around him. At the age of seven he was given his first electric guitar, but it wasn’t until he was ten years old that he began to teach himself how to play. In 2014, at the age of 16, he released his first solo album, Never Lie to Impress, a collaborative blend of musical genres that he wrote, recorded and produced. Shortly after his first release, he became the lead singer of Awkward Theory, an artist collective focusing, at the time, on an alternative hip hop sound. In 2019 he contributed to Gilda, debut album for Bronx rapper Kemba. Currently, Duran is preparing to release his upcoming untitled EP.
