About Furries in a Blender

Emoticon, also known as Furries in a Blender (often shortened to FIAB), is an alias of Emma Essex releasing upbeat happy hardcore music since around 2007 under Essex’s VULPvibe Records label, which later rebranded to LapFox Trax.

The character, an anthropomorphic cat originally known as Emoticon, was created in 2005 to appear with other characters and aliases of Emma Essex in the Mungyodance series of music games created by VULPvibe. Emoticon produced music in several genres throughout the series, with “happiness” being a recurring theme in his style, but eventually settled into producing happy hardcore and rebranded to Furries in a Blender.

After releasing about 13 albums and 4 EPs, FIAB was retired in September 2014, Essex having replaced him with a new alias, Rotteen, and growing tired of the FIAB name and pressure associated with it; Essex also admitted that “the name and design of FIAB are pretty much both a joke”. However, two months later it was revealed that Furries in a Blender would return back under the Emoticon name to continue producing happy hardcore.

Emoticon has since continued to release music, mainly appearing on compilation albums with the other aliases under the Halley Labs label.
