Funkdoobiest is an American hip hop trio from Los Angeles, California.
The original members are Son Doobie (Jason Vasquez), DJ Ralph M (Ralph Medrano) and Tomahawk Funk (Tyrone Pacheco).
Formed in 1989, first as Dj Ralph M and Son Doobie.
For their debut album Which Doobie U B? (Released by Epic Records in 1993) they got help from Dj Muggs and B-Real, members of the band Cypress Hill, having most songs of the album produced by Dj Muggs and with lyrical help from B-Real, who was also featured as a guest singer in the 8th track, “Wopbabalubop”.
After the release by Epic Records in 1995 of their second album Brothas Doobie, Tomahawk Funk left the group, being this album his last one but with some songs still being produced by Dj Muggs.
The album contains one of the famous, and most controversial songs of the group, Superhoes, which also appeared in the original soundtrack of the film “Friday” starred by the famous Mc Ice Cube.
Their third album The Troubleshooters was released in 1997. This was the first album whithout Dj Muggs and Tomahawk Funk. It features Tha Dogg Pound’s member Daz Dillinger, and the song Act On It appeared in the original soundtrack of the 1998 movie The Big Hit
This is considered their most west coast gangsta themed album focusing on the Hispanic Culture.
The Golden B-Boys was released in 2009, 12 years after their previous one.
After one release, and for the reunion of the band, Tomahawk Funk took part in the, for the time being, last release by Funkdoobiest.
