About Five Iron Frenzy

Five Iron Frenzy (FIF) is a rock, punk, and ska band from Denver, Colorado. They are often associated with the Christian punk and ska movement of the 1990s, though over time their music has shifted towards alternative rock with a horn section. After splitting up in 2003, the band re-formed in 2011 and continues to record and perform.

FIF’s current lineup (which has remained largely the same since they formed) is Reese Roper (vocals), Micah Ortega (guitar and vocals), Andrew Verdecchio (drums and vocals), Sonnie Johnston (lead guitar), Scott Kerr (guitar, bass, and vocals), Leanor “Jeff the Girl” Ortega Till (saxophone and vocals), Brad Dunham (trumpet), and Dennis Culp (trombone and vocals).

While the band is outspoken about the Christian faith of several members, their lyrics often tackle racism, homophobia, religious hypocrisy, and issues with conservative politics within the Christian church. Songs that don’t tackle these are often humorous and sarcastic.
