Fijimacintosh is a rapper facing a world that he hopes to change. In late 2017, his “Wintertime Nights” single began as a creative experiment that since has reached over 350,000 plays on Spotify.
After more than a dozen years rapping, and recording in studios, the Canton, Ohio native finally found himself. He discarded previous monikers, removed his past online music catalog, and started fresh. Listeners gravitated towards to the melodic sounds of the artist within the Tumblr-driven Vaporwave movement. Influenced by a combination of Travis Scott, The Matrix, Neil Young, Kid ‘n Play’s Class Act, Kid Cudi and anime binges, he says, “People need to use their imagination. Everything now is dark and black. I want color.”
Fijimacintosh’s March 26, 2018 release Satellite Crash has landed carrying all of the spectrums of a creative recluse with a story worth telling.
Satellite Crash is that music. The Cybersound 777/EMPIRE album is the product of a year of experimentation. “My spirit is like water,” explains the artist of a nickname he got in high school. The rapper started studying the melodies of Neil Young and Nirvana, and “swagging it out.” Soon, he was courted by producer Rex Kudo (Post Malone, Young Thug, Kehlani) and recording in L.A. With a hit-maker helping him work out his sound; the satellite took orbit. He describes the album, “It’s me crash-landing on earth, my introduction to come save the youth.” It is a kaleidoscope of moods, sounds, and vibes, often attached to vivid visuals.
