Ferde Grofé (1892-1972) is chiefly known for two things: orchestrating Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and composing Grand Canyon Suite. Born to a family of classical musicians in New York City, Grofé studied in Europe and enjoyed a highly successful career as a bandleader, pianist, and arranger.
