About Fecal Matter

Fecal Matter was a short-lived Punk Rock band started in 1985. The group was formed by Kurt Cobain, Dale Crover, and Greg Hokason.

Some songs that were originally recorded by Fecal Matter that were later rerecorded or either used by Cobain’s later group Nirvana are Spank Thru, Downer, and Anorexorcist.

The 1986 Fecal Matter Demo was Recorded on Kurt’s Aunt’s TEAC A-2340 Reel-to-Reel Recorder, with a 7-Channel Peavy Mixer, which she later sold to him.

The band broke up in 1986, but Cobain still went around giving out Fecal Matter demos to friends like Krist Novoselic. Novoselic and Cobain re-recorded Fecal Matter songs and used Downer in Nirvanas first album Bleach and played Spank Thru live on multiple occasions.
