Singer-songwriter Faron Young was born February 25, 1932 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Harlan Ray and Doris Young. He attended Fair Park High School in Shreveport where he graduated in 1951. He ranked #236 in a class of 244. Young was nicknamed “The Singing Sheriff” after starring in Hidden Guns. On July 1, 1954, he married Hilda Margot Macon. They had four children. Damion Ray was born August 16, 1955 and passed away November 25, 2006 after a long illness. Ironically, he passed at four in the morning, part of one of his father’s song titles. Son Robin was born September 6, 1957. There is another son, Kevin and daughter Alana. On September 17, 1972 at a show in Clarksburg, WV, Young spanked a six-year-old girl on stage, for sticking her tongue out at him before he sang “This Little Girl of Mine.” Her parents claimed he bruised her and he was fined $24 and $11 court costs. A year later, the parents decided to sue Young for $20,000. On March 2, 1974 a Nashville judge approved a $3,400 settlement between them. Young admitted no wrongdoing, saying that he simply wanted to avoid being tied up in court. In 1986, Hilda divorced Faron. A contributing factor was that he had fired a gun into the kitchen ceiling in 1984. Faron battled declining health including emphysema. On December 9, 1996, depressed about his failing health and career, he shot himself in the head. He passed away the next day. He is remembered for his songs “Hello Walls”, “It’s Four in the Morning”, “Wine Me Up”, “Country Girl”, and “Live Fast, Love Hard, Die Young”. When it comes to acting, besides Hidden Guns which was mentioned before, he is known for What Am I Bid?, Country Music Holiday, Raiders of Old California, and Daniel Boone, Trail Blazer.
