About Factory 81

Factory 81 were an American nu-metal band based out of Detroit, Michigan.

Formed in 1997, the band went under 7 previous names (Sweet Revenge, Deed, Bad Obsession, One World, Undone, Stain, and Stereo Sludge) and went through many lineup changes within the first year of the band’s formation before settling on the name Factory 81 and the final lineup of Andrew Cyrulkin on drums, Kevin Lewis on bass, Bill Schultz on guitar, and Nate Wallace on vocals in 1998. The band sent many demo cassettes to record labels before being signed to Medea Records.

The band released their first album, Mankind, on June 22nd, 1999 to little success. The band had completed recording their 2nd album after leaving Medea Records as well as Mojo Records (who reissued Mankind in 2000) before disbanding in 2001 due to the departures of Cyrulkin and Lewis. The second album, a self-titled effort, would eventually release on August 25th, 2019.
