Though Ernest John Moeran (1894-1950) was born in England and spent much of his childhood there, he was half-Irish and lived most of his adult life in Ireland. After serving in World War I, he was garrisoned in Ireland, where he was enchanted by the landscape. He arranged many folk songs from Norfolk and Suffolk, but he composed much music in more traditional genres. He died suddenly of what was likely a brain hemorrhage.
