Eric Wagner (24 April 1959 – 22 August 2021) was a vocalist based out of Chicago, Illinois.
Active since 1979, he was best known as the longtime vocalist for the pioneering doom metal band Trouble. Notable for his high range and distinctive, soulful voice, with Trouble he performed on seven of the band’s studio albums, including two signed with Rick Rubin’s Def Jam American label. Wagner is considered by many to be a pioneering voice in the doom metal genre.
Along with Trouble he was also best known as the vocalist for The Skull alongside former Trouble bassist Ron Holzner, who were active from 2011 – 2021. Along with original songs in the vein of the band’s doom metal era, they perform classic Trouble songs. Wagner has also contributed to band’s more in line with a psychedelic rock sound such as Lid and Blackfinger.
