Kazunari Ninomiya(二宮 和也) is a member of the Japanese boy band 嵐(ARASHI). He’s often called Nino(ニノ).He is also a songwriter, actor, voice actor, presenter and radio host. He composed, co-arranged and penned the lyrics(such as Fight Song,Niji).
Ninomiya was born on June 17, 1983, in Katsushika, Tokyo. At the age of 13, a resume sent to the office by his cousin led him to enter the Johnny & Associates in 1996.
With his mother’s encouragement, he decided to audition with 5,000 yen of pocket money, which turned out to be a major turning point in his life.
This episode made his character known as a “thrifty”.
His first appearance was in 1997, in the stage production of “Stand by Me” with future band members 相葉雅紀(Masaki Aiba), 松本潤(Jun Matsumoto), and 生田斗真(Toma Ikuta) from the same agency.
The following year, in 1998, he appeared in 松本清張(Seicho Matsumoto)’s TV drama “天城越え(Amagi Goe)”.
Since then, he has emerged as an actor and has appeared in a number of masterpieces.
He debuted as a member of 嵐(ARASHI) on September 15, 1999, and made his CD debut with “A・RA・SHI” on November 3 of the same year, launching his career as a singer and entertainer.
While working as a member of 嵐(ARASHI), he also received many offers as an actor, and in 2003, he played the sole lead role in 蜷川幸雄(Yukio Ninagawa)’s movie “青の炎(Ao no Honoo)”.
In the same year, he played his first solo lead role in a serial drama in the TBS series “Stand Up!”.
In 2006, he appeared in the Hollywood movie “硫黄島からの手紙(Iwo Jima Kara no Tegami/Letters from Iwo Jima)” directed by Clint Eastwood.
On January 18, 2016, he was nominated for the 39th Japan Academy Prize for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role for the 2015 film “母と暮らせば(Haha to
Kuraseba)” and on March 4, 2016, he won the Best Actor Award at the 39th Japan Academy Prize ceremony.
He also won the キネマ旬報(Kinema Syunpou) Best Ten Award for the same film.
On August 24, 2018, the movie “検察側の罪人(Kensatsu Gawa no Zainin)” was released, in which he co-starred with Takuya Kimura, his senior in the office.
On November 28, he won the 43rd 報知(Hochi) Film Awards for Best Supporting Actor for the same film, and on March 1 of the following year, he won the 42nd Japan Academy Prize for Outstanding Supporting Actor.
While appearing in numerous dramas, movies, and stage performances, he has also honed his talents as a variety show host and MC, becoming a radio host on Bay FM’s “Bay STORM” on October 4, 2002, and launching his hosting show, “ニノさん(Nino-san)”, on April 25, 2013.
On December 31, 2017, he served as the white team host of the 68th NHK 紅白歌合戦(Kohaku Uta Gassen), one of Japan’s longest-running year-end singing programs.
On April 25, 2021, he launched his official YouTube channel, “ジャにのチャンネル(Janino Channel)”. On the 29th of the same month, the number of registered users of the channel surpassed 2 million, which was a record within 21 days of its launch and also the fastest record in Japan at that time.
He calls himself a “gamer”, and his skills are highly regarded in the online gaming world.
He also plays the piano and guitar himself, writes lyrics, and has provided several songs for 嵐(ARASHI).
