Dan Seals (1948-2009) and John Edward Colley were classmates in high school in Dallas. They started performing together in cover bands, then in the Dallas pop group Southwest FOB. They initially called themselves Colley and Wayland, but Seals became “England Dan” after his love of British rock bands. Colley then changed his last name to “Coley” for the sake of pronunciation, and his middle name to “Ford” for the sake of prosody. The duo made seven soft-rock studio albums during the 1970s before Seals left to pursue a solo career. They had one album (Nights Are Forever) and one single (“I’d Really Love to See You Tonight”) certified gold.
