Though Ellis Marsalis Jr. (1934-2020) was best known as the father of jazz musicians Wynton Marsalis and Branford Marsalis, he was an accomplished musician in his own right. A saxophonist and pianist, he recorded some 20 of his own albums and appeared on other musicians' as well, but devoted a great deal of time to teaching at various schools around New Orleans. He died from coronavirus complications.
