About Edward Hopper

Edward Hopper is an American realist painter born in Upper Nyack New York; just north of New York City. Hopper is known for scenes of isolation and silence and was said the be heavily influenced by the writings of Ralph Waldo Emerson, the Transcendentalist. Another great influence of Hopper was Robert Henri, the founder of The Eight or the Ashcan School. Henri tough Hopper to paint from life and that what mattered was how he felt about the work and not what the scene was. Hoppers images give a glimpse into an isolated American existence where the common, everyday active is even a lonely one.
