Norway’s most acclaimed composer, Edvard Grieg (1843-1907) traveled widely in Europe and partook extensively of its musical life, but used Norwegian folk idioms to promote his country’s music to the world. He is best known for his Piano Concerto, his incidental music to Henrik Ibsen’s Peer Gynt, and his Lyric Pieces for piano.
