R&B and soul legend “Sweet” Eddie Kendricks held one of the purest falsettos ever known to man. Not to mention an impeccable style.
Kendricks gained fame as the falsetto lead of the Temptations, and sang lead on several of their biggest hits, including ‘The Way You Do the Things You Do’, ‘Get Ready’, and ‘Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)’.
After feeling frustrations with both the group and the psychedelic style of their music, Kendricks left the Temptations in 1971 and embarked on a successful solo career, including the #1 smash ‘Keep on Truckin'’ and the #2 hit ‘Boogie Down’.
His 1972 track ‘Girl You Need A Change Of Mind’ is credited as one of the first disco songs, and 1977’s ‘Intimate Friends’ has been sampled numerous times.
Kendricks passed away from lung cancer on October 5, 1992, aged 52.
