Duane “Skydog” Allman was the founding member of The Allman Brothers Band, though it got its name when he invited, as the last member, his brother Gregg. He was not only the band’s creator, but also came to be seen as one of the best guitarists in southern rock, not just in his eponymous band, but for years before that as a session guitarist. All of this, together, was only a short time, ending in his tragic death via motorcycle accident in 1971, just two years after the release of the band’s first album.
