Drinking Electricity was a Scottish post-punk and synth-pop duo active from 1980 to 1982.
Formed in Edinburgh, Scotland, Drinking Electricity consisted of Anne-Marie Heighway and David Rome.
David Rome had previously collaborated with Martin Lloyd in the band Analysis, which later evolved into Oppenheimer Analysis. The duo was signed by Bob Last to his Pop: Aural label, under which they released their initial singles, including cover versions of Johnny Kidd & The Pirates
“Shaking All Over” and The Flamin' Groovies' “Shake Some Action”.
After their early releases, Heighway and Rome established their own label, Survival Records, which became a prominent platform for minimal wave music in the 1980s. The duo released their debut album Overload in 1982.
The band disbanded later in 1982, but Survival Records continued to operate, releasing music from artists such as Richard Bone, Tik and Tok, and Play.
