Drego and Beno are a rap duo from Detroit known for their tight-knit bond, shared interests in music, sports, humor, and a common goal of telling their stories through their music.
They grew up together as godbrothers in Eastside Detroit, attending the same schools up to high school and bonding over classic R&B and rap groups like Team Eastside and StreetLordz. They view R&B and hip-hop as “real life cinema,” a reflection of real-life experiences and emotions.
Their foray into rapping began in a fun and casual way when they would rap and create funny disses and rhymes to entertain their friends. This led to Beno participating in the “Geeked Up Challenge” on Vine, where he rapped to the instrumental of Jeezy and Fabo’s “Geeked Up” with funny one-liners. The response was so overwhelming that they decided to take rapping more seriously.
Their debut mixtape, “Sorry For the Get Off,” released in 2019, was a major hit, especially the track “Recipe 2”. This led to the release of another mixtape and their debut album, “Meet Us Outer Space,” the same year. They became known for their raunchy punchlines, candid storytelling, and the balance between humor and street tales in their music. This characteristic blend of elements in their music reflects their real-life characters and experiences growing up in Detroit.
Both Drego and Beno paused their music production during the pandemic, a decision influenced by their practicality as businessmen who couldn’t perform live. However, they returned to the scene in July 2022 after a three-year hiatus with the lead single for their new project, “You Hip.” Followed by their album release of “Sorry We Was Trapping".”
