American songwriter, arranger and musician. Bennett grew up in Pasadena, California and started his musical career at his early 20s by arranging music for independent artists and garage bands with psychedelic rock and soul flavours, such as the Chocolate Watchband and the Standells in the 1960s and 1970s.
As a musician, he was a bassist and vocalist for the hard rock band Sweet Marie from 1969 to 1973, where he first used the alias of “Prince Teddy”. He wrote their single “Remember Mary”, which was initially popular in Hawaii. Bennett released his only album “The Prince Teddy Album” in 1977. It did not gain national attention until a 2019 New York Times article noted that his album was among the master tapes lost in the 2008 Universal fire. According to Jody Rosen of the New York Times, Bennett made no recordings or arrangement after 1978 and died in the 1990s. (Rosen 2019)
