Nelson Chu, better known as DJ Official (Bronx, New York, September 16, 1976 – Lancaster, Ohio, August 14, 2016), was an American disc-jockey, musician and record producer, often credited with helping forge the sound of Christian hip-hop.
He was one of the original members of the 116 Clique, and he has frequently worked with artists such as Lecrae, Trip Lee, Tedashii and Stephen the Levite. According to his friends and collaborators, among the context of the 116 Clique and the relative label (Reach Records), he has played a key role not only as an artist, but also as a human. Sadly, after battling many health issues throughout the years, he passed away, due to complications during surgery, on the 13th of August, 2016.
Even though he has released just one album as a solo artist, the 2009 effort Entermission, many producers and rappers of the next generation have stated that he had a powerful impact on their works.
