Diane Cluck is an American singer-songwriter. Many have placed her music into the anti-folk or freakfolk genre, although she likes to describe her music as intuitive folk.
Cluck began playing music since the age of 7, but only decided to make a career from it in the year 2000, when she was ‘working way too much, paying off student loans’. Then she realized how magical and healing songwriting was for her. The same year she self-released her first self-titled album and not only a year later her second album came out, Macy’s Day Bird. Cluck explained to Anima Rising:
Songwriting is such a powerful way of sharing information. […] When one writes a song, it can be given and given and given again, shared indefinitely. Songs float on the air!
In 2004 her third album, called Oh Vanille/Ova Nil, came out. This album got way more notice than the previous ones, with even her songs getting used in the popular U.K. TV teen drama series Skins and in the film Margot at the Wedding.
In 2012, Diane Cluck started with a project called “Song-of-the-week”, where she would make 24 songs over six weeks. Through subscription you would be able to follow the songwriting proces. Only shortly after the project started, the time frame got changed from six weeks to a still unknown date. But don’t worry, this project hasn’t stopped her to make another record, having released in 2014 her seventh album: Boneset.
