Songs bring us closer to their creators and one another. Artist and songwriter Devin Kennedy invites intimacy through a handcrafted hybrid of alternative, and R&B. The Los Angeles-born singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist weaves his life into the core of his music, opening up so much you’ll feel like you know him as well as one of your closest friends. He leaves a piece of himself on every layer by not only performing but also producing and writing every song. Such sonic and lyrical candor has endeared him to a growing fan base with tens of millions of streams and praise from the likes of American Songwriter, MTV News, Lyrical Lemonade, and many more.
The L.A. native grew up immersed in music. His classically trained grandfather shined as a concert pianist, while his dad created commercial music—which meant guitars, drums, and bass would always be within reach for Devin at home. He listened to everyone from The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Paul McCartney to All Time Low and Fall Out Boy, citing his attendance at John Mayer’s Continuum Tour as a particularly formative moment. “I was like, ‘This is what I want to be doing’,” he recalls.
In between cutting his teeth in high school bands, he learned how to produce. After graduating from Berklee College of Music, he emerged as a sought-after producer, co-writer, and collaborator, working with everyone from Ben Platt, Ryan Tedder, Chester Bennington, Stone Temple Pilots, Andy Grammer, and R3HAB to Jake Miller, James Maslow and many others in the studio.
While working his first job, Devin personally bootstrapped his solo output by self-funding and releasing his first projects. He gained traction with projects such as the You & Me, That’s Enough EP [2019], Happy Yet EP [2020], SunDayDreams EP [2021], Poetry EP [2022], and Poetry (Intimate) EP [2022]. Among many highlights, “Something Bout That Feeling”—which featured a sample of his late grandfather’s piano playing— tallied 12 million Spotify streams, and “Forget About You” racked up over 20 million Spotify streams, while averaging north of 2 million monthly listeners on Spotify. Maintaining his momentum independently, he notably soundtracked a viral TikTok for Born Dreamer Perfume by Charli D’Amelio, landed syncs for Toyota and Walmart, supported Jeff Bernat and Daniel Seavey on the road, and appeared on Good Day DC in addition to claiming coveted real estate on many playlists such as Spotify’s New Music Friday.
