About Desmond Dekker

Jamaican Ska, Rocksteady, and Reggae singer/songwriter notable for his hits “007 (Shanty Town)”, “Israelites”, “Ah It Mek” and “Rude Boy Train”. Rising to fame in the late 60’s, Dekker was an artist considered to be a pioneer of the Jamaican Ska. Early on he was responsible for bringing the likes of Bob Marley into the spotlight – which truly kick-started the Reggae sound. Dekker’s career continued steadily through the 70’s and 80’s as he toured with his backing group, The Aces, and later on, The Rumour.
