Dean Daughtry was an American musician and songwriter, born in Kinston, Alabama on September 8, 1946. He died in Huntsville, Alabama, at the age of 76.
He was the keyboard player for the band, Classics IV (after Joe Wilson’s departure). The group had a 1968 hit song called “Spooky”.
He was a founding member of the Southern Rock Band, The Atlanta Rhythm Section, founded in Doraville, Georgia in 1971. Daughtry remained the band’s only consistent member until retiring in 2020.
Atlanta Rhythm Section had two top ten hits in the U.S. with 1977’s, “So in to You”, followed by 1978’s, “Imaginary Lover”. Both songs peaked at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, and at #2 and #9 on the Canadian charts.
