About Dawn Robinson

Dawn Robinson is an R&B singer formerly of the Grammy-nominated groups En Vogue and Lucy Pearl. With En Vogue, Robinson was put together with Terry Ellis, Cindy Herron, and Dawn Robinson to form the group in 1989 after a talent search in Oakland by producers Denzil Foster and Thomas McElroy. Dawn was a part of En Vogue’s first two platinum albums—1990’s Born to Sing and 1992’s Funky Divas—which both yielded #1 R&B hits such as “Hold On,” the cover of Aretha Franklin’s “Giving Him Something He Can Feel”, and “My Lovin' (You’re Never Gonna Get It)”.

Dawn appeared with En Vogue on the television shows In Living Color, Roc, and A Different World in 1993. In 1994, En Vogue appeared on the Top 3 platinum single “Whatta Man” by Salt-N-Pepa. Dawn’s last song with En Vogue was the #1 R&B hit “Don’t Let Go (Love)” from the Set It Off soundtrack in 1996. She left En Vogue citing issues with management during a contract dispute before the release of the group’s third album, 1997’s EV3, but some of her leftover vocals were used on the album.

She joined Raphael Saadiq and Ali Shaheed Muhammad in the group Lucy Pearl in 1999 and they released their only album in 2000. After she left Lucy Pearl following a financial dispute, she briefly signed with Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment in 2001 but later left and released her solo debut album Dawn in 2002 on Q Records. She has reunited with En Vogue for several performances over the years and was a cast member on TVOne’s R&B Divas: Los Angeles in 2013.
