David Norman Yazbek, born in 1961, is an American musician, composer, and writer who grew up in New York City. He is most known for his extraordinary contributions to the Broadway world. He has composed score for multiple large-scale musicals, such as Tootsie, The Band’s Visit, The Full Monty, and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. He has won many awards, most notably a Tony, a Grammy, and an Emmy. Although lesser known, Yazbek also writes his own music, and has released several personal albums including The Laughing man, Damascus, and Tock. In terms of his personal life, David Yazbek is married to his wife, Elizabeth Doberneck, a meditation teacher. They have a college-aged son, named Omar.
