It’s likely that all connaisseurs of Dutch hip hop have multiple tracks by Davey Donovan (Davey Soenarto, 1989) in their playlist. The Amsterdam-based producer – who was accepted by the Rotterdam music school in 2009 – has been active in the scene since a young age, and through the years has been building an impressive catalog and gathering millions of streams.
Musical diversity are key words to his sound. Layered or minimalistic, his beats are built on emotion. From warm, yet raw hip hop sounds to modern synths and rhythms: Davey produces all across the board, which makes a go-to choice for different kinds of artists across the country.
He produced music for big name artists like Sticks, Lijpe, Jonna Fraser, Yade Lauren, SBMG, Murda en Sevn Alias. He also contributed to the golden compilation album Gate 16, produced the title track of Hef’s golden number one album Koud, and was responsible for 8 tracks on his album Rook, which came in 2nd in the charts. In may 2021 he produced Kevin’s single ‘Fisherman’ together with Spanker, which has gathered more than 10 million Spotify streams by now.
Putting his musical qualities to work in various areas, Davey is also working as A&R/project manager for Top Notch and Noah’s Ark, where he supports fellow artists creatively.
Earlier mentioned Dutch rap legend Hef worked closely and frequently with Davey through the years. He developed a strong belief in Davey’s talent which recently lead him to add Davey to the roster of his publishing imprint with Cloud9.
