David Michael Murray (born in London, England on December 23rd, 1956) is an English musician and songwriter, best known as the guitarist of the British heavy metal band Iron Maiden.
Murray grew up in various areas of London. He took an interest in rock music at 15 and formed his own band, with childhood friend and his bandmate in Iron Maiden, Adrian Smith.
He auditioned for Iron Maiden in late 1976. After only a few months in the band, Murray was sacked following an argument with then vocalist Dennis Wilcock. He teamed up with Adrian Smith again in his band, Urchin. Following Wilcock’s departure, Murray was asked to rejoin Iron Maiden.
Along with Iron Maiden’s founder and bassist Steve Harris, Murray is the only member who has appeared on all of the band’s releases.
