Darius Milhaud (1892-1974) was a prominent member of the French modernist composing group known as Les Six. He was heavily influenced by Brazilian music and jazz. During the Nazi occupation of France, the Jewish-descended Milhaud lived and taught in America, where his students included Dave Brubeck and Burt Bacharach.
