About Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse

Dark Night of the Soul is an album by Sparklehorse, Danger Mouse and David Lynch, featuring collaborations by numerous notable musicians (Iggy Pop, Vic Chesnutt, Julian Casablancas, Black Francis, The Flaming Lips, etc).

The album’s release was postponed due to a legal dispute with distributor EMI. As a workaround, it was released as a blank CD-R, clearly labeled: “For legal reasons, enclosed CD-R contains no music. Use it as you will.” Concurrently, the audio was widely leaked on the Internet.

Both Mark Linkous (aka Sparklehorse) and Vic Chesnutt committed suicide before the album’s official release.
