Dana Glover (born October 14, 1972 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina) is an American singer, songwriter, and musician. Although she spent her teenage years as a model living in New York and appearing in magazines like Elle and Self, she relocated to Nashville, Tennessee at age 18 to pursue a career in music. There she began playing piano and saxophone as an accompanist and background vocalist for Kim Boyce and Gary Koreiba. This led to more work as a studio and touring musician, most notably with Peter Cetera. Dana can be heard playing sax on his 1995 album One Clear Voice and hit single “(I Wanna Take) Forever Tonight.” Dana joined Peter on tour later that year, performing both the sax and vocal parts.
In 1997, she released the album Dana through an independent label, and after relocating to Los Angeles, continued to work on her music and sang on a couple of demos for other artists. Two tracks recorded during this time with producer Wade Hubbard, “I’ve Seen the Signs” and “Fields of Green,” appeared on soundtracks for the television show Charmed and the college drama film The Sterling Chase. After performing at several showcase events, Dana was ultimately signed to DreamWorks Records, and lent her voice to a couple of films, including The Wedding Planner, to which she contributed the duet “Plan on Forever” with Mervyn Warren, and Shrek, where she sang and wrote the lyrics and part of the music for “It Is You (I Have Loved),” the film’s well-known love theme.
Inspired by Dana’s love of gospel music and Southern soul, Testimony was released in 2002 and produced the singles “Thinking Over” and “Rain.” Several of the album’s songs, including “The Way (Radio Song)” and “Maybe,” were featured in films like Two Weeks Notice, Laws of Attraction, Raising Helen, and Tuck Everlasting.
After the release of Testimony, Dana wrote and recorded “The Truth Lies,” which was used as the opening and closing theme for the movie Blueprint, and teamed up with Dave Koz for the song “Start All Over Again,” which they performed together on Desperate Housewives. Dana continues to work in the music industry, writing for other artists, touring as a musician and vocalist, and as a background singer and vocal arranger, notably for Leonard Cohen, for which Dana contributed to his final studio albums and can be heard prominently on songs like “Come Healing,” “Did I Ever Love You,” and “You Got Me Singing.” In 2018, Dana released the single “Fair Weather Friend” and is currently preparing her long-awaited follow-up album.
