A native of Cheshire, Cyril Scott (1879-1970) showed musical talent from an early age and studied music in Germany. He composed hundreds of concert works in every genre, though fame eluded him for most of his life. He was also a writer who penned numerous books on philosophy, alternative medicine, and the occult. Besides writing original poetry, he also translated works into English by Baudelaire and Stefan George.
