Coye Sanders (b. March 13, 2001) is a popular multitalented artist and producer from Huntsville, Alabama widely established as koi.

The L.A.-based artist began as a simple beatmaker through his high school years in 2016. In his spare time, he’d produce and upload his creations to music-sharing websites like Airbit and SoundCloud. Finding little success in doing so, however, he instead took it upon himself to manifest the songs he had envisioned.

Over his career, koi has proven himself to be a very capable independent artist. He’s even found himself a sizeable cult following for the unique sound he has developed since the beginning. He has experimented with a variety of sounds such as hip-hop, pop, R&B, rock, plugg, hyperpop with positive reception.

In an Instagram Q&A, the young artist was asked about why he had pursued music in the first place. After a moment of thought, he’d simply respond:

I was bored.

Since 2021, koi has garnered significant praise from underground communities around the world. He has grown a track record known for his accessible, yet strangely irreplaceable ear for hits. Popular hip-hop sites Lyrical Lemonade and ELEVATOR Magazine have accredited him as a rising star. His discography, from albums to singles, have obtained millions of plays through natural spread (i.e. “dont make me fall in love”, “Ysl”, and “big”). Zero promotion, zero co-signs, and zero labels.

So far, ​koi has released five independent albums: 2004 on November 28, 2018; i do my best <3 on April 2, 2019; before it’s too late on April 29, 2020; wayside on November 17, 2021; and Trial & Error on July 27, 2022 (along with its deluxe edition two months afterwards).

​koi has also released one extended play (EP) called 10&2 on February 15, 2021.
