Converge is a hardcore band from Salem, Massachusetts formed in 1990. Starting out as a self-professed “bunch of hardcore kids playing leftover Slayer riffs” the band is now famed for their raw, honest expression and complex sound, their music featuring poly-rhythmic drumming and occasionally unorthodox time signatures.
In 2001 the band released their landmark album Jane Doe, and settled on a definitive lineup with Jacob Bannon on vocals, Kurt Ballou on guitar, Nate Newton on bass and Ben Koller on drums. Since that release, the band has released five more albums, and three live albums.
In 2021 Converge officially established an expanded branch of the band featuring Chelsea Wolfe, Ben Chisholm, and Stephen Brodsky as additional members. Converge records featuring the expanded lineup will have the word “Bloodmoon” in the title, with the first record being Bloodmoon: I
